WindGrid will accelerate development of offshore wind sector

Elia Group has announced that it is expanding its international offshore transmission infrastructure business through a new subsidiary – WindGrid. Markus Laukamp will start as CEO on 1 April 2022.

The Board of Directors of Elia Group has already approved the creation of the new company. WindGrid will enter the international offshore wind grid infrastructure market.

In recent years, Elia Group has contributed to the development, construction, connection, and operation of offshore energy networks through its subsidiaries Elia and 50Hertz. Through them, they have implemented large and innovative projects in both the North Sea and the Baltic Sea.

Elia Group wants to secure development needs in the offshore wind sector in Europe. To accelerate the energy transition, significant investments in offshore grids and renewable energy generation will be made in the coming years in Europe and other markets.

WindGrid aims to be a reliable partner for governments that want to proactively build offshore grid infrastructure and for developers of renewable energy projects who are looking for solutions to safely connect and integrate their energy projects with onshore grids.
