In collaboration with Mammoet and the community of Wick, Subsea 7 has safely and successfully transported its longest (36.5m) and heaviest (over 280t) towhead, the Northern Terrace Manifold (NTM), and SSIV Towhead from Global Energy Group’s Invergordon facility to Wick, as part of the Buzzard Phase II project.

The mighty move from Global Energy Group’s Invergordon facility to Subsea 7’s Bundle Fabrication Site at Wester, near Wick, is the final stage of a year of engineering preparation between heavy transportation specialist Mammoet, and Subsea 7’s project and inhouse 3D experts. Using Subsea 7’s VR suite in Aberdeen, Subsea 7 Buzzard designers used 3D street survey data to create a digital twin model of the route from Wick Harbour to Wester. This enabled the project team to identify modifications at critical points along the route using VR, before finalising the methodology for the towhead movements.

This is a significant milestone for the Buzzard project. The NTM and SSIV Towheads will be tied into Subsea 7’s Pipeline Bundle technology, a pipeline system which neatly incorporates all structures, valve work, pipelines and control systems into one single pipe-in-pipe product.
