Sarens Helps to build Sri Lanka´s Wind Infrastructure
Sarens rental equipment helps install wind turbines at the Chunnakam Wind Farm in Jaffna Peninsula, Northern Sri Lanka
Sarens serves clients worldwide with the right equipment for any job, whether it’s for a one-day lift or more complex operations like the installation of wind turbines.
Sarens was commissioned to provide rental equipment to help install 8 wind turbines of 2.5MW each, at the 20MW Chunnakam Wind Farm in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan government is aiming to become an energy self-sufficient nation by 2030 and hence working towards capacity building.
Our team in India, which is serving the Sri Lankan market from their New Delhi office, worked with the client and decided to deploy our crawler crane – CC2800-1 with SSL/LSL+SGL_S7 configuration. The CC2800-1 is the best in class crane available in the market for the wind jobs in the region. It is easy to rig and derig and offers flexibility, hence minimising time. The crane was transported to Chennai port from Sarens’ yard by road and then taken to Sri Lankan port by ship.
During the operation, the crane had to lift four tower sections, nacelle, hub, and three blades of a wind turbine. Maximum load of the nacelle is about 118T. Sarens has also provided the client with a crew having two crane operators and four riggers having specific experience in the wind sector.
According to the Regional Sales Manager, Wind, APAC and Africa, Samrat Bhatnagar, “Sarens brings its global expertise and localised solutions to serve the wind market in Srilanka. I would like to congratulate everyone involved in the successful delivery of the crane and to the client for their collaboration. We are looking forward to some interesting and challenging wind projects in the APAC and Africa region in the near future.”
