Explosion on the Akal-C6 Platform, Mexico

Three workers where transferred to the General Hospital of Pemex in Ciudad del Carmen after an explosion on the Akal-C6 Platform.

All workers on board of the platform were evicted as a security measure and transferred to the facilities of the semi-submersible Atlantis and Reforma.

Pemex announced on their Twitter account that at 10 a.m.(GTM-5) a fire broke out on the Akal-C 6 platform, which was put down at 10:50 a.m.

Pemex executives are meeting at the Regional Emergency Assistance Center located in the building on 31st Street on the island, to assess what happened and to determine the causes of the explosion.

It was reported that the incident was confined to the first level, west side of the platform and that fire fighting teams of the Akal-C 6 platform worked together with the fire fighting teams from the Mezquital and Atlantis platforms to extinguish the fire.

Pemex reported that after the incident was under control, activities were resumed as normal on the Akal-C 6 platform.
