Elecnor Opened New Wind Farm in Valencia
Elecnor, through its wind energy development and operating subsidiary Enerfín, has opened Cofrentes Wind Farm, the first facility of this type to be opened in the Valencian Community since 2012.
Enerfín obtained funding for this project from Banco Sabadell through its Project Finance option. The construction of this farm has involved investment of EUR 53 million.
Thirteen General Electric 3.83 megawatt (MW) wind turbines have been installed, creating total power capacity of 50 MW. The new wind farm will generate an annual electricity production of 155,000 MWh, equivalent to the electricity consumption of 43,000 families, and prevent the emission of 66,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
Enerfín was awarded this project as part of the Valencian Community’s Wind Plan. The Elecnor Group has carried out the construction of the civil works as well as the electrical infrastructure of the farm to the point where it feeds into the grid at the Cofrentes Substation, owned by Iberdrola. Its construction has generated some 300 direct jobs and more than 600 indirect jobs.
The excellent work carried out this month in conjunction with the other companies involved in the final phase of the project (GE, Iberdrola, Elecnor and Enerfín), together with the support received from the Valencian Regional Government, has made it possible to open the farm on the scheduled date.
The operation of the Cofrentes Wind Farm will bring in approximately EUR 400,000 in taxes and contributions per year to the Valencian Community’s Wind Plan Compensation Fund.
