Blue Water Relocates Unusual Blade Racks for Siemens Gamesa
Blue Water Shipping (BWS) has been contracted to move blade racks from the quayside to the rear area in the port of Esbjerg.
By means of a port crane rented from Port of Esbjerg, the racks were loaded on Blue Water’s SPMT (self-propelled modular transporter) for transportation to warehouse.
The blade rack consisting of a tip and root-end support are approx. 30 metres long and weigh 90 tons each. They had been used onboard installation vessels in connection to the Coastal Virginia Wind Farm which is a demonstration project approx. 43 kilometres off Virginia Beach on the US east coast.
“Everything proceeded as planned, and we handled the project with our own equipment and manpower on behalf of Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE)”, says Søren Messmann, General Manager Port Services Division, who is pleased with another successful operation for SGRE.
