Seacontractors Successfully Assist Jan De Nul in Taiwan

Seacontractor’s multi-purpose vessels Sea Charlie and Sea Buffalo were chartered by Jan de Nul to assist at Taiwan Power Company’s Changhua Phase 1 offshore wind farm.

Jan De Nul is responsible for the design, fabrication and installation of the foundations, the installation of the wind turbines, the supply and installation of the onshore and offshore cables, as well as for the upgrading of the substation.

It is a first for Seacontractors to be working in Taiwan. It was extra challenging working in a new region during a global pandemic with new and constantly changing regulations, restrictions on the movements of personnel, vessels, equipment and supplies.

Sea Charlie and Sea Buffalo, both equipped with heavy duty cranes are designed to assist dredging and offshore projects in shallow waters. Usual work scopes are anchor handling, towing, pulling, pushing and positioning of barges, hose handling, buoy installation, assisting with beach landing of the power export cable and many other duties within the capabilities.

The first turbine is now installed, the project team will proceed with the commissioning process, along with the final termination of the subsea cable inside the tower. Changhua Phase 1 will comprise 21 5.2 MW turbines scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.

Sea Charlie and Sea Buffalo have left Taiwan and are now prompt available in Colombo (LK).
